Hoversurf, a San Francisco and Moscow based-company unveiled an original flying car made with 3D printed carbon fiber and metal parts: “Formula”.

With five seats, the release of the vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) car is expected for mid-2018.

Formula

Formula is the proof that manufacturers reached a crucial milestone in manufacturing, a milestone which is due to drone-making experience.

“Do you know the problem with all flying car projects?” Hoversurf asks. “They’re all made for the future. They’re impossible to park and impractical for daily use. Formula was created for the present day and will quickly and seamlessly become a part of your everyday life.”

As far as its manufacturing is concerned, Formula is the perfect mix of both helicopters and airplanes and does not include any of the risks associated with typical S/VTOL aircraft which make use of rotary engines.

So, in a practical way, the copter elements of the Formula do not depend on the plane’s elements functioning. In other words, a dysfunction of the wings or the turbines would not stop the car to land.

As for specifications, notice is to be made that the Formula will be able to fly up to 450 km, and its speed goes up to 320 kmh. According to Hoversurf, the partially 3D printed aircraft is eco-friendly and quiet.

Great news: it can fit into standard car parking spaces!

Its turbines are said to work as the “Venturi effect”. In other words, “ordinary atmospheric air is drawn into the turbine outlet by injection, creating an additional flow and reducing the noise of a high-speed jet flow inside the low-speed flow.”

Last, its 3D vision technology facilitates its navigation.

Car enthusiasts could buy the Formula flying car at $97,000 (€ 83 555,90) by mid-2018.
