First acknowledged for its long-standing expertise in injection molding, German manufacturer OECHSLER is now scaling additive manufacturing. The company began evaluating Carbon’s Digital Light Synthesis technology in 2015 and 2016, and by 2017 had moved into high-volume production.
With a key focus on lattice components, OECHSLER is committed to supporting customers from initial concept through to market introduction.
“If you need a partner for ten showcase pieces but nothing more, we are most likely not the right partner,” OECHSLER notes in a profile published by its technology partner. “But if you need a production company that can produce volume at the same high level of quality over multiple years, that is why our customers come to us.”
Consumer goods remain a significant share of the business
From cushioning elements for helmets, saddles and footwear, we have seen a variety of consumer applications OECHSLER enabled through Digital Light Synthesis. Although consumer goods remain a significant share of the business, to avoid its additive business to rest on one or two accounts, the company widened its customer portfolio. It also now explores medical technology and industrial markets where a focus is made on process control.
That said, for the company, no matter what application is involved, at volume, what happens after the printing part (finishing, inspection, handling, logistics) decides whether the business works.
Today OECHSLER runs 40 Carbon printers in full production mode: three shifts a day, the full week. In 2026, OECHSLER expects to reach roughly two million individual components per year.
How exactly? What does production economics look like? And what the supply chain and sustainability case look like?
Those are the questions we will ask Andreas Knoechel, Head of Program Management at OECHSLER, on Wednesday, October 28th – alongside Gabe Bentz, CEO of Slant 3D, who argues that scale comes from the opposite direction entirely. Join them here.
