4 new 3D printing materials based on Nylon PA11 complete Sculpteo’s portfolio

Sculpteo and its parent company, BASF have developed 4 new 3D printing materials based on Nylon PA11.  Developed for Sculpteo’s portfolio, the new materials are all bio sourced and sustainable.

Sculpteo explained that this bioplastic is created from castor oil, Nylon 11 or Polyamide 11 (PA 11). This polyamide is part of the nylon family of polymers created by the polymerization of 11-aminoundecanoic acid, an organic compound.

The materials include Ultrasint® PA11, Ultrasint® PA11 ESD Ultrasint® PA11 CF and PA11 MJF.

Ultrasint® PA11: A bio-derived powder with exceptionally high toughness

Ultrasint® PA11 is printed with SLS technology and has the particularity of offering high ductility and impact strength for all applications. It can be useful when looking for durable parts able to withstand high mechanical loads and stress. Ultrasint® PA11 is based on 100% renewable biomass sources. It offers interesting properties for components requiring skin contact. Thanks to its high rigidity, this material allows 3D printing of lightweight designs by reducing wall thicknesses. It has a good impact resistance making it particularly adapted to the automotive sector for example, to manufacture car interior components. Finally, PA11 can withstand high mechanical loads and stress which makes it a perfect solution to manufacture living hinges. It is powered by BASF – Forward AM.

Ultrasint® PA11 ESD: A resistant 3D printing material with electrostatic discharging properties

Ultrasint® PA11 ESD (electrostatic discharge) is a bio-derived powder material with electrostatic discharging properties for increased safety process in advanced applications. With its interesting mechanical properties, this material offers new possibilities for a wide range of new applications, especially for the electronics sector. This material presents great mechanical and thermal characteristics. It can be used for electronic housing, jigs and fixtures for electronics and tooling. It is powered by BASF – Forward AM.

Ultrasint® PA11 CF: A resistant 3D printing material for multiple uses

Ultrasint® PA11 CF (carbon fiber) is a resistant 3D printing material. It is one of the strongest materials in the 3D printing industry, combining high ductility and impact performance as well as really high rigidity. This 3D printing material is carbon-fiber-reinforced, providing advanced mechanical performance for parts when strength and rigidity are needed. Ultrasint® PA11 CF can meet the highest performance requirements. Moreover, thanks to its high rigidity, this material allows 3D printing of lightweight designs by reducing wall thicknesses. It is powered by BASF – Forward AM.

PA11 for MJF: The Multi-jet fusion technology for multiple uses

Contrary to the first three PA11 3D printing technology, PA11 uses multi-jet fusion technology. The Multi Jet Fusion technology’s process is similar to binder jetting technology as it uses a liquid binding agent to create the layers of your object. In addition, a detailing agent is used to obtain fine details and to smooth the surface of the object. It can be used in medical, impact resistance and living hinges applications.
