Partnerships unveiled in the AM industry this week: The Barnes Group Advisors and APWORKS, XJET & AB Universal, Protolabs & MIT

Several types of partnership can be signed within this industry: distributor, development of product, sales, etc. This week, a certain number of companies marks their interest in making the Additive Manufacturing (AM) industry progress through collaborations.

Partnerships that result from Formnext

Additive Industries is not the only company to benefit from the return on investment of Formnext. APWORKS and The Barnes Group Advisors signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) during the Formnext event.

According to this agreement, The Barnes Group Advisors (TBGA) will be supplying Additive Manufacturing (AM) Technical Marketing and Application Development support via the Technical Excellence Resource Model. The Technical Excellence Resource Model allows APWORKS access to TBGA technical expertise as needed to support AM business opportunities. For APWORKS, this is the opportunity to focus on AM-based serial applications and offers its customers AM training, AM compliant design optimization, business case development, and end-to-end industrial production capabilities.

XJET, An Israël-based company decided to expand its activities in Russia. The company found in AB Universal the ideal distributor for its metal and ceramic Carmel AM Systems. With over 25 years of experience in the Russian market, AB Universal has built a reputation of reliable and proficient supplier of state-of-the-art equipment. This deal just followed the one signed with BeamIT for the Italian market. It has been signed at Formnext and is certainly already effective.

Protolabs to to Advance Next-Gen Manufacturing Technology

Digital manufacturing company Protolabs is a founding member of MIT’s newly formed Center for Additive and Digital Advanced Production Technologies (ADAPT) — The consortium aims at scaling new manufacturing technology through research, education, actionable insights, and an MIT-based ecosystem that pairs industry and academia.

Other founding members of the consortium include Autodesk, General Motors, and Volkswagen, to name a few.

Among the initial efforts of ADAPT are seeding exploratory research projects with faculty and graduate students, and accelerating the establishment of a new, advanced additive manufacturing laboratory at MIT. ADAPT activities also complement MIT’s leading AM education programs like Additive Manufacturing for Innovative Design and Production, an online certificate program offered by MITxPRO with manufacturing and engineering support from Protolabs.”
