How Stratasys will foster the adoption of 3D printing in Education

3D printing companies are increasingly investing in the adoption of 3D printing in Education. They can either support projects carried out by students in universities or launch additive programs to foster the adoption of AM by students and teachers. Until now, Stratasys had supported students from a German university in the realization of a project. We talked about it in the December issue of 3D Adept Mag (P.38).

Following the example of Ultimaker, Markforged or even GE Additive which launched additive education programs, the company has recently signed a five-year cooperative agreement with R&D center ACAM Aachen Center for Additive Manufacturing (which is part of the RWTH[1] Aachen Campus in Germany). This partnership will enable to gather the expertise and resources to deliver a training program in AM at the ACAM.

Stratasys will bring its contribution by installing a Fortus 450mc Production 3D Printer and provide training and services at the center. By using the FDM 3D printer for hands-on teaching in engineering courses and professional training, students will be able to directly experience the advantages and areas for improvements of thermoplastics as well as drive new ways of ‘thinking additively’ for design, manufacturing and engineering.

ACAM on its side, will therefore refine and expand existing training courses as well as establish newly-tailored educational programs.” New curriculum elements for additive Manufacturing will be developed by partners for the training.

Matthias Gukelberger, Vice President and Head of Services, Stratasys EMEA lays emphasis on the needs of Germany in the industry : “in countries like Germany, where the focus for manufacturing and production is still on metal, the cooperation provides an opportunity to convey the benefits of thermoplastics for production and introduce students to the technology early on.”
