3D Systems’ Figure 4 Standalone 3D printer allows functional prototyping and low volume production

3D Systems has announced the availability of its new Figure 4™ Standalone 3D printer, a solution for functional prototyping and low volume production. This 3D printer is not to be confused with Figure 4™, the 3D production platform, released in November.

According to the manufacturer, the 3D printer would allow “same-day functional prototyping iteration and low volume production at speeds up to 100mm per hour — with six sigma repeatability. The statistical result is stated as Cpk > 2, where Cpk is the process capacity index.

Furthermore, thanks to the light-based UV curing process, the 3D printer would only take a few minutes to allow fast throughput and a short time during the manufacturing process.

Complementary materials, applications & software

Materials such as Figure 4 TOUGH-GRY 10, Figure 4 TOUGH-GRY 15, Figure 4 ELAST-BLK and Figure 4 JCAST-GRN can be used with the 3D printer. They are respectively intended for rapid design iterations, production application, iteration and design verification of flexible parts and casting of jewelry patterns.

As far as software is concerned, the 3D printer already includes 3D Sprint™ and will very soon integrate 3D Connect™, a cloud-based software solution which presents 3D Connect Service, a module dedicated to remote diagnostics, and 3D Connect Manage, another module designed for fleet management.

3D Systems’ Figure 4 Standalone is currently available and priced at $21,900 (US)/€19.900 (EU Countries), £18.900 (UK).

Lastly, the company explained that “manufacturers can grow with the technology from Figure 4 Standalone for rapid prototyping and low volume direct 3D production, to Figure 4 Modular that scales as parts demand grows, up to Figure 4 Productionfor a fully-automated, fully-integrated factory solution.”
