What if ShareCloth brings 3D printing to retail industry?

The eponymous application of ShareCloth will be compatible with Windows and Mac OS to enable designers to create 3D designs for garments that could be 3D printed.

Sergey Moliavko, founder of ShareCloth.com wants to lay emphasis on 3D printing into fashion retail. Indeed, 3D printing technology will not only enable faster prototyping, it could also be useful in replacing mass production of garments.

The fashion industry today

The truth is, the clothing industry has conditions that are not always conducive to a good clothing’s production.

Sometimes, the production takes place far away from the original design centres or outlets. Furthermore, one often has to wait for months to move from the idea of a product to its implementation in the outlets.

Management problems but also pollution that arise require then the input of a technology sufficiently effective to remedy it.

Hence the proposal of the fashion tech startup ShareCloth

The ShareCloth software, created in collaboration with designers involved in the Moscow Design Bienniale, aims at facilitating the 3D printing process and making it accessible to designers of today and tomorrow.

Made specifically for 3D printed clothing, traditional clothing styles and basic clothing are pre-set on demand, imported before being directly printed in 3D. It is obviously possible to customize the garment.

Before the next 3 years, there will be more and more fabrics. Leather-like materials will be used as 3D printing materials by next year. In the meantime, a biodegradable plastic is already available for many applications.
