How 3D printing improves the drones’ performance…

You surely know that, drones are the machines that are progressively replacing other means of transport, delivery and spraying as it is the case here. In order to improve the efficiency of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), Soleon, an italian based company makes use of 3D printing techniques to reduce the weight of the aircraft components; thus the improvement of their efficiency.

SoleonAgro is one of Soleon’s last creations, made with a laser polyamide sintered body. It allows to fight against agricultural pests.

To simplify things to those who do not work in agriculture (this is definitely important to know!), the drone is very involved in spraying chemicals that would protect the soil from dust and any kind of parasite.

It has increasingly become popular and is progressively taking the place of devices driven by a humanbeing. Because the latter is very heavy, the flight time is often reduced.

By using 3D printing techniques, the Italian company exploits the power of the printing service to perform a rapid prototyping and end-use part production. In order to maximize battery power and increase the flying time, 3D printed parts must be particularly lightweight.

The big advantage of 3D Printing is that we can very quickly create complex systems, even in small quantities,” affirms Soleon’s Michael Überbacher. “Normally the parts are printed and sent within one week. As a small company, this offers us the opportunity to react very quickly to the changes and wishes of our customers.
